In 2011, Chase Sterling came to Michael Knouff to record some demo songs as he had worked with Chase's previous band. Michael and Chase hit it off quickly, bonding over hookah, drinks, and conversations about their favorite bands. One day, Chase came to hang with Michael and asked if he would like to be more involved by helping write music for his project. Thus, Brother Orchid was born.
